Peripheral Nerve Stimulation: A Comprehensive Guide
Abstract
Chronic intractable knee pain can significantly affect patients’ function and quality of life. Despite the complex nerve supply of the knee, its innervation offers potential referral nerve targets for stimulation and effective pain modulation. The saphenous nerve can be targeted either above the knee within the adductor canal or below the knee in the anterior leg where the nerve is superficial. Other nerves can also be targets for neuromodulation. Ultrasound guidance allows for safe lead implantation around the knee without significant neurovascular complications.
