Abstract
Incarcerated patients pose a unique challenge in a hospital setting. There are not only federal and state specific guidelines, but also ethical principles which need to be followed in caring for this special population. The complexity of the situation calls for an interdisciplinary model of care which is focused on communication, privacy, safety and practice of medicine. In this chapter we briefly discuss some of the challenges which practitioners can encounter treating incarcerated patients.
