Impact of Pulmonary Rehabilitation on Physical Functioning, Exercise Capacity and Sleep Disturbances in Post-tuberculosis Cases: A systematic Review

Abstract
Introduction: This systematic review aims to find the impact of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) on physical functioning and exercise capacity of people with TB sequelae after the completion of treatment.
Methodology: Articles were retrieved from Databases (MEDLINE (PubMed); Scopus; and Web of Sciences). Inclusion and exclusion criteria were specified a-priori. Screening was carried out through Rayyan software. Articles in conflict were resolved before full-text review. The PRISMA Framework was followed for this systematic review.
Results: Sixteen articles were finalised for the review studies included trials (5), cross sectional studies (6), qualitative (1), case reports (2) and cohort studies (2). Forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 s, 6-min walk test and St. George Respiratory Questionnaire score showed significant improvement after the PR.
Discussion and Conclusion: This systematic review provides strong evidence for the positive impact of PR on lung function, quality of life and functional capacity in TB survivors. The findings suggest that PR is a valuable adjunct therapy that can be effectively implemented in the resource-limited settings. Further research is needed to explore the effectiveness of Yoga in improving the post-TB complications and the impact of PR programs in improving the sleep disturbances in post-TB patients.
