Abstract
The Flow Study: Effects of Semaglutide on Chronic Kidney Disease in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes. Dr. Sabita Budhathoki, Nephrology; Dr. Anuj Gupta, Nephrology
Objectives:
- Describe the rationale for using GLP-1 receptor agonism, specifically semaglutide, inpatients with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease
- Evaluate the design, patient population, endpoints, and major findings of the FLOW trial, including the effect of once-weekly semaglutide on kidney and cardiovascular outcomes
- Interpret the clinical significance of the FLOW trial results, including the 24% relative reduction in primary composite kidney outcome and the slower decline in eGFR with semaglutide
- Apply evidence from the FLOW trial to clinical decision-making, including identifying appropriate patients for semaglutide therapy, integrating it with established CKD therapies, and recognizing relevant safety and treatment considerations
